Which classes do you teach online?

Fundamentals and an occasional elective

Why did you start teaching?

As part of the master's program I was offered a teaching assistantship. However, I have always enjoyed helping others and doing public speaking. This is the best of all worlds for my wish to make the world a better place.

What's the best advice that you have ever received?

Believe in yourself.

What's the best advice that you could give your students?

Ask. Don't let pride, fear or doubt keep you from asking for information, help, a job, a dream. You can ask for just about anything (legal, moral, etc.) so long as you are polite and respectful and willing to take "no" for an answer. You might get a "yes" just for taking the chance to ask.

What qualities make someone particularly successful in accounting?

Honesty, objectivity, a sense of fairness, diligence, and a great work ethic

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

Everyone should read and not just one book.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?

Accounting remains a dynamic profession. Changing, new regulation and new technology require constant monitoring and continuing education.

Tell us something that your students might find interesting, something they may not know about you.

I lived on a farm in Southwest Oklahoma. Even though I did not have plans to leave the area I took German classes in high school. Later in college I chose Greek, Roman and Hellenic Art and Architecture as a humanities elective. The classes were easy and the professor used slide shows from the places he had visited. Moving forward a few years, my husband accepted a civil service job working for the USAF in Zweibruecken, Germany. While in Germany we traveled to Rome, Athens and more where we saw most of those great works of art once seen in the slides of my humanities class. What a joy!
