What do you want your students to take away from your classes? What do you want them to learn?

I was working full time raising a family when I worked on my master's and my doctorate. I understand working, coaching, teaching, doing lesson plans, grading papers, and then on top of that, working in graduate programs. So in my class it's going to be very application-based. I won't ask you to do any work or any projects that are just for the project. I hope that it's something that you can take and then incorporate on your own campus, use in your own classrooms.

What's the best advice that you could give your students?

Never stop learning, never stop growing, and be a leader wherever you are.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

Read the Bible for life and read Lead Like Jesus for some servant leadership application.

What qualities make someone particularly successful in education?

To be successful in education, you must have an inner need to serve humanity. You must be open, honest and a person of integrity.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that educators face today?

One of the biggest challenges facing educators today is a selfish "me first" attitude of entitlement exhibited by a growing number of students and parents.

Tell us something that your students might find interesting, something they may not know about you.

I started school in first grade at Fourth Ward Elementary School in Paris, Texas, and have been in school in some capacity ever since.

As a student at Paris Jr. College I drove a bus route for my home district of Prairiland ISD. After retiring as superintendent of Tom Bean ISD, I then drove a bus for the Grayson Special Education Coop for two years. My education career in Texas was a full cycle.
