To meet the admission requirements for the Master of Early Intervention and Child Development online program, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 2.75 overall GPA or minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of courses, or
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university, with a minimum 2.0 overall GPA AND a current resume demonstrating two years of experience in the field of study—must be reviewed and approved by program coordinator, or
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and at least 6 hours in a graduate program from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and must be in good standing at previous university
  • No GRE is required for Southeastern Oklahoma State University online MEICD programs

The online Master of Early Intervention and Child Development allows a maximum of 9 credit hours that can be transferred from another program with approval from the program coordinator.

International Application and Admissions Requirements: Please note, unfortunately, students with an F-1 visa are ineligible for online programs.

  2. Complete profile (this will also serve as the application)
  3. Academic Records:
    • Original final post-secondary transcript(s) and diploma(s) from each college or university attended. If your transcript is not issued in English, we require the original document as well as an English translation done by your school(s) or a professional translating company. Original = issued by a school or examination board with an official signature and school stamp or seal.
    • Post-secondary records from outside the U.S. must be analyzed by a NACES (www.NACES.org) educational credential evaluation service such as IERF or WES or ECE. For IERF, students need to choose the "detailed report" option and select Southeastern Oklahoma State University from the menu. IERF will send the evaluation of your records to our International Student Services office.
  4. English Proficiency: Internet-based TOEFL score of 79 or an IELTS Academic score of 6.5, taken within 2 years of enrollment
    • For TOEFL, let us know your registration number and have your score report sent to Southeastern (institution code: 6657).
    • For IELTS, let us know your TRF number.
    • You do not need TOEFL or IELTS scores if you meet one of the following:
      • English is your first language
      • You have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university
  5. Financial support: Submit a Graduate Affidavit of Financial Support along with an original bank statement stamped and signed by a bank official (within six months of your enrollment) demonstrating that your sponsor has a liquid U.S. $ balance that covers the cost of your enrollment at Southeastern for the first year of your degree program. All documents must be in English. If not, an English translation must accompany the original.
  6. Passport name page: Copy of the biographic page of your passport showing your name, date of birth, passport number and expiration date. If dependents will accompany you to Southeastern, provide copies of their passport biographic pages, along with marriage and birth certificates, as applicable, to verify your family relationship.
  7. U.S. $55 application fee: This is not refundable. You have two options for making the payment:
    • Credit card: Call the Southeastern Business Office (+1-580-745-2350) with a credit card number and your Student ID (we will email your student ID number to you after you submit the Complete Profile). Note: Please tell the Business Office that you are an international applicant.
    • Money order: Pay to Southeastern Oklahoma State University (in U.S. $ and with your name on it).

For the MEICD – Administration online program, students must complete the following coursework, totaling 30 credit hours.

EICD 5283: Typical and Atypical Development in Childhood and Adolescence

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course provides an in-depth study of child and adolescent development with emphasis on typical and atypical development, prevention, assessment and intervention. Students will immerse themselves in the research literature on the topics covered in the course and share the knowledge they discover with fellow students. Students will complete a final project demonstrating their ability to apply knowledge gained in the course to their work with children in their specialty.

EICD 5353: Assessment and Intervention for Infants and Children

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course provides an in-depth study of early childhood assessment and intervention with an emphasis on conducting authentic assessments during children's natural routines and play. It will cover the utilization of assessments to inform effective program planning and assessing children with diverse abilities. Students will learn how to utilize interventions to address communication development, sensory processing, motor development, and vision and hearing impairments. They will learn how to infuse interdisciplinary interventions into the child's daily routine and develop an understanding involving families and professionals as collaborative partners in the assessment and intervention process. Students will complete a final project demonstrating their ability to apply knowledge gained in the course to their work and to children in their field of specialty.

EICD 5863: Research in EICD

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course provides an understanding of research methods, statistical analysis, and needs assessment strategies in the field of professional counseling. This course is designed to assist the student in becoming a critical consumer of research methods such as qualitative, quantitative, single-case designs, action research, and outcome-based research studies. Students are also introduced to ethical and culturally relevant strategies for interpreting and reporting the results of research studies accurately and effectively.

COUN 5123: School Counseling Orientation and Ethical Practice

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course introduces studies that provide an overview of historical, contemporary, clinical and training issues in the practice of school counseling. The course also provides information related to the following aspects of school counseling practice: (a) professional roles and responsibilities; (b) professional organizations; (c) state and national credentialing; and (d) counselor advocacy and selfcare. Lastly, the student will be provided with an in-depth understanding of the current version of the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and state-level school counselor certification and corresponding regulations.

COUN 5283: Assessment in Counseling

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course introduces studies that provide an understanding of individual and group approaches to assessment and evaluation in a culturally diverse society. This course also provides an understanding of assessment in counseling through (1) an overview of basic counseling assessment concepts, (2) an understanding of test construction, (3) familiarity with instruments, and (4) an overview of test interpretation. It also provides a discussion of typical problems and approaches to individual and group testing in the area of intelligence, aptitude, achievement, interest and personality measurement. History, rationale and ethical issues in the use of counseling assessment instruments are included.

SPED 5073: Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course will prepare educators to work in schools to meet the unique behavioral needs of learners in K-12 environments through systemic, prevention-focused and data-based decision-making. The course will prepare the educator to collaborate with other school professionals to plan interventions to meet the needs of students who present challenging behaviors.

SPED 5093: Applied Behavioral Analysis for Teachers

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course promotes knowledge and skill in analyzing behavioral problems across a range of issues. Special consideration is given to designing interventions, implementing, managing and supervising applied projects. Topics include the identification and selection of problems and target populations, analysis of problems and goals, designing measurement systems, developing interventions and disseminating products from applied behavioral research.

SPED 5063: Consulting, Collaboration, and Co-Teaching

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Effective strategies for collaboration with families, other educators, related service providers, and personnel from community agencies in culturally responsive ways to promote and advocate the learning and well-being of individuals with ELN across a wide range of settings and a range of different learning experiences.

EDUC 5373: Innovative Leadership for Digital Age Environments

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Theoretical and practical foundations to empower visionary leaders with the required innovative, technology-based management/administrative-related knowledge/skills required to thrive in a variety of organizations (K-12 schools, for andms, etc.) This course will also address the legal issues related to leading digital citizens.

SPED 5233: Special Education Law

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course will deal extensively with federal/state legislation and case laws and regulations and with administrative and civil court actions in the determination of the status of services to children with disabilities. The role of executive, legislative and judicial bodies will be examined vis a vis legal, ethical and procedural parameters that provide direction for school practitioners and policy makers.
