To meet the admission requirements for the Master of Early Intervention and Child Development online program, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 2.75 overall GPA or minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of courses, or
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university, with a minimum 2.0 overall GPA AND a current resume demonstrating two years of experience in the field of study—must be reviewed and approved by program coordinator, or
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and at least 6 hours in a graduate program from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and must be in good standing at previous university
  • No GRE is required for Southeastern Oklahoma State University online MEICD programs
  • There is a non-refundable $30 application fee for both domestic and international students

The online Master of Early Intervention and Child Development allows a maximum of 9 credit hours that can be transferred from another program with approval from the program coordinator.

International Application and Admissions Requirements: Please note, unfortunately, students with an F-1 visa are ineligible for online programs.

  3. Academic Records:
    • Original final post-secondary transcript(s) and diploma(s) from each college or university attended. If your transcript is not issued in English, we require the original document as well as an English translation done by your school(s) or a professional translating company. Original = issued by a school or examination board with an official signature and school stamp or seal.
    • Post-secondary records from outside the U.S. must be analyzed by a NACES (www.NACES.org) educational credential evaluation service such as IERF or WES or ECE. For IERF, students need to choose the "detailed report" option and select Southeastern Oklahoma State University from the menu. IERF will send the evaluation of your records to our International Student Services office.
  4. English Proficiency: Internet-based TOEFL score of 79 or an IELTS Academic score of 6.5, taken within 2 years of enrollment
    • For TOEFL, let us know your registration number and have your score report sent to Southeastern (institution code: 6657).
    • For IELTS, let us know your TRF number.
    • You do not need TOEFL or IELTS scores if you meet one of the following:
      • English is your first language
      • You have a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university
  5. Financial support: Submit a Graduate Affidavit of Financial Support along with an original bank statement stamped and signed by a bank official (within six months of your enrollment) demonstrating that your sponsor has a liquid U.S. $ balance that covers the cost of your enrollment at Southeastern for the first year of your degree program. All documents must be in English. If not, an English translation must accompany the original.
  6. Passport name page: Copy of the biographic page of your passport showing your name, date of birth, passport number and expiration date. If dependents will accompany you to Southeastern, provide copies of their passport biographic pages, along with marriage and birth certificates, as applicable, to verify your family relationship.
  7. U.S. $25 application fee: This is not refundable. You have two options for making the payment:
    • Credit card: Call the Southeastern Business Office (+1-580-745-2350) with a credit card number and your Student ID (we will email your student ID number to you after you submit the Complete Profile). Note: Please tell the Business Office that you are an international applicant.

For the MEICD – Native Populations online program, students must complete the following coursework, totaling 30 credit hours.

This course provides an in-depth study of child and adolescent development with emphasis on typical and atypical development, prevention, assessment and intervention. Students will immerse themselves in the research literature on the topics covered in the course and share the knowledge they discover with fellow students. Students will complete a final project demonstrating their ability to apply knowledge gained in the course to their work with children in their specialty.

This course provides an in-depth study of early childhood assessment and intervention with an emphasis on conducting authentic assessments during children's natural routines and play. It will cover the utilization of assessments to inform effective program planning and assessing children with diverse abilities. Students will learn how to utilize interventions to address communication development, sensory processing, motor development, and vision and hearing impairments. They will learn how to infuse interdisciplinary interventions into the child's daily routine and develop an understanding involving families and professionals as collaborative partners in the assessment and intervention process. Students will complete a final project demonstrating their ability to apply knowledge gained in the course to their work and to children in their field of specialty.

This course provides an understanding of research methods, statistical analysis, and needs assessment strategies in the field of professional counseling. This course is designed to assist the student in becoming a critical consumer of research methods such as qualitative, quantitative, single-case designs, action research, and outcome-based research studies. Students are also introduced to ethical and culturally relevant strategies for interpreting and reporting the results of research studies accurately and effectively.

This course introduces studies that provide an overview of historical, contemporary, clinical and training issues in the practice of school counseling. The course also provides information related to the following aspects of school counseling practice: (a) professional roles and responsibilities; (b) professional organizations; (c) state and national credentialing; and (d) counselor advocacy and self care. Lastly, the student will be provided with an in-depth understanding of the current version of the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and state-level school counselor certification and corresponding regulations.

This course introduces studies that provide an understanding of individual and group approaches to assessment and evaluation in a culturally diverse society. This course also provides an understanding of assessment in counseling through (1) an overview of basic counseling assessment concepts, (2) an understanding of test construction, (3) familiarity with instruments, and (4) an overview of test interpretation. It also provides a discussion of typical problems and approaches to individual and group testing in the area of intelligence, aptitude, achievement, interest and personality measurement. History, rationale and ethical issues in the use of counseling assessment instruments are included.

This course will prepare educators to work in schools to meet the unique behavioral needs of learners in K-12 through systemic, positive, prevention focused and data-based decision making. The course will prepare the educator to collaborate with other school professions to plan interventions to meet the needs of students who present challenging behaviors. *Other elective courses may be selected at the discretion of the department’s Graduate Committee (comprised of the program coordinators).

This course promotes knowledge and skill in analyzing behavioral problems across a range of issues. Special consideration is given to designing interventions, implementing, planning and designing applied projects. Topics include identification and selection of problems and target populations, analysis of problems and goals, designing measurement systems, developing interventions, and disseminating products from applied behavioral research.

Effective strategies for collaboration with families, other educators, related service providers, and personnel from community agencies in culturally responsive ways to promote and advocate the learning and well-being of individuals with ELN across a wide range of settings and a range of different learning experiences.

This course is a survey of historical and contemporary developments regarding native education. Conflicting values at a personal, tribal, state and federal level will be explored, along with the results of such governmental policies. The course will give careful examination to the Meriam Report, Kennedy Report, Indian Education Act of 1972, Johnson-O'Malley Act of 1934, No Child Left Behind, Esther Martinez Native American Languages Preservation Act of 2006, and current policy as it is developed. The course will begin with a historical perspective on Indian education prior to the arrival of Spanish and European influences.

The course will examine issues that directly impact the daily operations of tribal governments and the tribal members of those governments. The course will highlight areas from a broad range of topics with the understanding that these topics of interest are constantly changing and developing. Areas such as economic development, health and education, social services, culture and language, and tribal governance will be studied so to provide the students with a broad range of knowledge as the topics relate to them or their communities.

This course covers issues involved in multicultural organizations, including developing consensus within the organization for valuing diversity, relationship building, communicating across cultures, and managing people of different genders, races and cultures with an emphasis on diversity as it pertains to Native American people in the workforce. Issues of stereotype, bias and resistance are examined from both a personal and an organizational perspective with an emphasis on making meaningful contributions to diversity initiatives within organizations.
