The coursework in this online ESL master's program also meets the TESOL/CAEP standards and will prepare you to sit for the Oklahoma ESL Subject Area Test, as well as have ESL certification added to your teaching license.

To meet the admission requirements for the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction – English as a Second Language (ESL) online program, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 2.75 overall GPA or minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of courses, or
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 2.0 overall GPA AND a packet consisting of a current resume, one professional letter of recommendation, and letter of application which outlines the applicant's career goals and objectives (including how an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction – English as a Second Language (ESL) will enhance their career) that must be reviewed and approved by program faculty, or
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and at least 6 hours in a graduate program from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and must be in good standing at previous university
- No GRE is required for Southeastern Oklahoma State University online M.Ed. programs
International Application and Admissions Requirements: Please note, unfortunately, students with an F-1 visa are ineligible for online programs.
- Complete the application. There is a non-refundable $65 application fee.
- Academic Records:
- Original final post-secondary transcript(s) from each college or university attended within the United States.
- Post-secondary records from outside the U.S. must be course-by-course analyzed by a NACES (www.NACES.org) educational credential evaluation service such as IERF or WES or ECE.
- English Proficiency: Internet-based TOEFL score of 79 or an IELTS Academic score of 6.5; taken within 2 years of enrollment.
- For TOEFL, have your score report sent to Southeastern (institution code: 6657).
- For IELTS, let us know your TRF number.
- You do not need TOEFL or IELTS scores if you meet one of the following:
- English is your first language from a country whose official language is English
- You have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university
- You have a bachelor’s degree from an English speaking country

For the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction – English as a Second Language (ESL) online, you will complete a total of 10 courses equaling 30 credit hours, including 21 credit hours of core coursework and 9 credit hours of English as a Second Language (ESL) C&I specialty courses.
EDUC 5113: Fundamentals of Curriculum Development
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
The examination of the curriculum worker's task of helping teachers to attain and maintain a desirable learning and teaching situation for both elementary and secondary school students.
EDUC 5203: Introduction to Education Research
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
A study of research methodology and literature related to solving educational problems and improving the learning process.
EDUC 5103: History and Philosophy of Education
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
Educators will explore, critically appraise, and apply the historical and philosophical foundations of education to their professional practice. Attention will be given to such topics as the purposes of education, professional ethics, technology and education, and diversity in schooling and society.
EDUC 5153: Teaching Strategies
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
An investigation of contemporary problems of classroom instruction and related educational and social concerns. Additional strategies for coping with these problems are examined.
EDUC 5183: Learning in Culturally Responsive Learner Environments

Theoretical and practical foundations to empower visionary leaders with the required innovative, culturally responsive knowledge/skills required to thrive in a variety of socio-economically and/or geographically diverse organizations, such as: K-12 schools, for and/or non-profit organizations, universities, libraries and museums.
EDAD 5373: Public School Law

Legal regulations as they relate to the administration of public schools.
EDUC 5313: Introduction to Learning Technologies
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course will empower students with the theoretical and practical foundation to create and support innovative, transformational learning environments that are infused with technology.
ESL 5103: DFSDFSD
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course examines the history of language education in the United States and the impact of policies on the education of culturally and linguistically diverse students (i.e. English language learners). Through course readings, discussion, and assignments, students will develop an understanding of the theoretical foundation and rationale for English as a Second Language (ESL) education in the United States. How this rationale informs the implementation of ESL programs will also be examined. This course is designed to meet TESOL/CAEP standards and help prepare students for the Oklahoma ESL Subject Area Test.
ESL 5203: Languages and Cultures
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course introduces students to issues related to cultural diversity and language/linguistic variation. The course addresses culturally responsive pedagogy and diversity (both culturally and linguistically) issues in terms of teaching and learning. Candidates will develop an understanding of multicultural and multilingual perspectives as well as cross-cultural awareness by employing multiple approaches to teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students. This course emphasizes theories of second language acquisition and learning, multidialectalism and language differences among speakers of English. This course is designed to meet TESOL/CAEP standards and help prepare students for the Oklahoma ESL Subject Area Test.
ESL 5303: ESL Methods, Materials and Assessments
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course focuses on English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum development and instruction for students (Preschool thru grade 12) in a variety of language and program settings. The course emphasizes ESL materials selection, ESL instruction, literacy and content-area instruction (L1 and ESL), and sheltered English instruction (SIOP – Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol). Topics related to ESL for ELLs are reviewed. This course is designed to meet TESOL/CAEP standards and help prepare students for the Oklahoma ESL Subject Area Test.
