A snapshot of the online Master of Education in Educational Leadership – Professional program
The online M. Ed. In Educational Leadership – Professional Track program builds on your classroom teaching skills and prepares you to take on leading roles in education, such as that of school principal. Grow your understanding of the education system and learn the inner workings of school finance and administration in 100% online courses—most of which are taught by educators with more than 20 years of experience in school administration. All of our educators provide personalized attention as you earn your degree online.
Graduates of this program are eligible to take the Oklahoma principal certification exam. This program does not lead to initial teaching certification.

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accredits the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. CAEP promotes excellence in educator preparation through quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Requirements for our online educational leadership program
Southeastern Oklahoma State University's online M.Ed. programs have specific requirements that applicants must meet to enroll. Please read the admission guidelines to ensure you qualify.

Before applying, check to see if the program is offered to residents in your state.
To meet the admission requirements for the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership - Professional Track online program, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 2.75 overall GPA or minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of courses, or
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 2.0 overall GPA AND a packet consisting of a current resume demonstrating two years of teaching experience, one professional letter of recommendation from a current administrator, and letter of application which outlines the applicant's career goals and objectives (including how an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership will enhance their career) that must be reviewed and approved by program faculty, or
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and at least 6 hours in a graduate program from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and must be in good standing at previous university
International Application and Admissions Requirements: Please note, unfortunately, students with an F-1 visa are ineligible for online programs.
- Complete the application. There is a non-refundable $65 application fee.
- Academic Records:
- Original final post-secondary transcript(s) from each college or university attended within the United States.
- Post-secondary records from outside the U.S. must be course-by-course analyzed by a NACES (www.NACES.org) educational credential evaluation service such as IERF or WES or ECE.
- English Proficiency: Internet-based TOEFL score of 79 or an IELTS Academic score of 6.5; taken within 2 years of enrollment.
- For TOEFL, have your score report sent to Southeastern (institution code: 6657).
- For IELTS, let us know your TRF number.
- You do not need TOEFL or IELTS scores if you meet one of the following:
- English is your first language from a country whose official language is English
- You have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university
- You have a bachelor’s degree from an English speaking country

A Look at the Master of Education in Educational Leadership – Professional Online Classes
For the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership – Professional Track online, you will complete a total of 10 courses equaling 30 credit hours.
EDUC 5203: Introduction to Education Research
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
A study of research methodology and literature related to solving educational problems and improving the learning process.
EDUC 5113: Fundamentals of Curriculum Development
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
The examination of the curriculum worker's task of helping teachers to attain and maintain a desirable learning and teaching situation for both elementary and secondary school students.
EDUC 5413: Student and Program Assessment and Evaluation
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
Explores the use of a range of formal and informal assessment methods to plan for instruction, to monitor and evaluate student progress, to involve students in the assessment process, and to report student achievement to various audiences.
EDAD 5303: School Administration
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
An examination of the history, theories, principles and practices in school administration.
EDAD 5313: School & Community Relations
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
An exploration of the need for presenting factual information and communication through collaboration with all school and community stakeholders.
EDAD 5323: Supervision of Instruction
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
The examination of theory, research and evolving concepts which have practical implication for supervision of all facets of instruction in schools.
EDAD 5373: Public School Law
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
Legal regulations as they relate to the administration of public schools.
EDAD 5403: School Operations Management
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course will address facilities, finance, resource allocations, resource management, and technology for the principal.
EDAD 5483: The School Principal
Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course uses the framework of a school improvement plan to provide opportunities for candidates to demonstrate and apply knowledge, abilities and dispositions necessary to administer, develop, evaluate, implement, communicate and plan for the responsibilities of leadership and data-based school improvement. EDAD 5933: Internship: Capstone Experience
Duration: 16 weeks | Credit Hours: 3
This course provides opportunities for candidates to demonstrate and apply the knowledge, abilities and dispositions necessary to administer, develop, evaluate, implement, communicate and plan for the responsibilities of school leadership. (Prerequisite: departmental approval)
